House bill 3-306 is an act to ban the usage of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in manufactured products. According to section 1 Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is a family of human-made chemicals used, and are included industries bought by consumers. The purpose of HB 3-306 is to ban all usage of all (PFAS) in manufactured products as stated in section 2. Mentions in section 2 state that PFAS has a tendency to stay intact which does not allow it to break down in the human body, and as well with the environment. Therefore the chemical stays inside of the human body which then increases the risks of getting cancer, liver damage along with a change in liver function, increased cholesterol levels, thyroid hormone disruption and others.
During the discussion Jake Shin was asked by one of the delegates if there is an alternative to this harmful substance, and which he responded gen x. There was then a speech in negation which was presented by representative Kc Wenzel. He stated that he thinks that gen x and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are both equally bad and stated how we should not substitute it with gen x. A delegate then stood up to give a speech in affirmation. He talked about how this bill should be passed due to the fact that PFAS do not break down in the environment. He also stated that these substances have a big impact on adolescents which can then lead to developing diseases because of the toxicity levels. The bill was them voted on, and which lead the bill to fail.
